The South African Research Ethics Training Initiative


The SARETI Masters (Health Research Ethics) programme with a legal focus is calling for applications. Please consult the 'Application Form" tab on the left of this page for details and to download the application form.

  • SARETI is a comprehensive multidisciplinary education programme in health research ethics for Africa. SARETI aims to build African capacity for the ethical review of health research, and to strengthen Africa's institutional training capacity to achieve and sustain this.

  • SARETI provides a variety of educational programmes, varying from short courses to full masters programmes.

  • SARETI staff represent many facets of research ethics in South Africa and are selected from leading South African and international universities.

 

 

 Additional Modular students in 2009 were sponsored by UNAIDS African Aids Vaccines Programme’s Ethics, Law and Human Rights Collaborating Centre (AAVP).  

 

   

Additional modular students in 2010-2012 were sponsored by EDCTP through a grant to the UNAIDS African Aids Vaccines Programme’s Ethics, Law and Human Rights Collaborating Centre (EDCTP).


   

Additional modular students in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 were sponsored by the Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI). MEPI is funded by NIH/FIC and the President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR).





Additional funding was received from the Columbia University-Southern African Fogarty AIDS International Training and Research Program (CU-SA Fogarty AITRP), which was used to co-fund two scholars to receive the SARETI training towards a Masters of Social Science in Health Research Ethics. This funding was received in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
